Find Putnam County Traffic Records

Start with the citation number and the statewide MyCase search, then turn to the Putnam County Clerk when you need the official record. Putnam County traffic court records follow a ticket from filing through response, court setting, payment, deferral, or judgment. Traffic cases run through the county Superior Court and its unified clerk rather than a municipal court portal. Two things matter early. The issue date on the ticket is not a trial date. Read the court docket, confirm each deadline, and pick the right local route to pay, deny, or seek deferral.

Traffic Court Records in Putnam County

Putnam Superior Court and the Putnam County Clerk handle the county's traffic docket. Check the official court directory. The live MyCase selector lists no Putnam municipal or town traffic court. A court file here can show a great deal. It may include the citation, cause number, offense, party role, response or plea, setting, costs, deferral, disposition, judgment, appeal, and links to public documents.

The official Putnam traffic page lays out the local rules for responding and paying.

Official Putnam County traffic court records instructions

Use the local page to respond to a citation. Use MyCase for the public CCS. Use the Clerk to verify the official court record.

The issue date on a citation starts the local response period. It is not a trial date. A denial leads to a later setting. The CCS or the assigned court must confirm when and where you appear.

Putnam County's 90-Day Response

The prosecutor's traffic page sets a firm window. It allows 90 days from the citation issue date to return payment, denial, or deferral. That window does not turn the printed issue date into a hearing. Read the bottom of the citation and keep a copy. Give the Clerk a correct mailing address too.

Quick answer: respond within the published 90-day period, but use MyCase or the Clerk to learn the actual Putnam County traffic court date.

Need more time? Call the Clerk at 765-653-2648 rather than assume silence extends the deadline. The local page lists Tuesday hours until 6:00 p.m. for traffic payments, but confirm that schedule before a late visit.

How to Look Up a Putnam County Traffic Ticket

Indiana MyCase takes a citation number, case number, or party name. Select Putnam County and Criminal & Citation. The citation number printed on the ticket is the best first key; if a case number has been assigned, use it alone in case mode.

  1. Read the citation number and the local response terms on the ticket.
  2. Open MyCase and use Citation Number, or use the assigned case number.
  3. Select Putnam County and Criminal & Citation when a filter is needed.
  4. If no result appears, call the Clerk at 765-653-2648 or visit the courthouse counter.
  5. Confirm the case number, status, setting, amount, and response deadline with the official channel.

A name search works too, but common names pull in unrelated cases. Putnam offers no separate citation-lookup or photo-enforcement portal.

Putnam County PayGov Handoff

MyCase finds the court case. It is not the local payment processor. The Putnam payment page sends you to the Clerk first for the case number, then to PayGov. Never guess on a payment screen without the right case number, or the money may post to the wrong citation.

The official Superior Court payment page shows this handoff.

That official page ties the Clerk's case-number check to the separate PayGov transaction.

Mail payment takes a money order or cashier's check. Make it payable to Putnam County Clerk at PO Box 546, Greencastle, IN 46135. The local page says no personal checks. Credit or debit may be used for costs and fines. Verify the live balance with the Clerk. Online financial data can lag.

Finding Putnam County Traffic Court Dates

The citation issue date starts the response clock, not a trial. A denial requests trial, and only then does the court set the case. Check the CCS for a setting entry. Confirm with Superior Court at 765-653-2658 or the Clerk before traveling. Putnam has no separate public county calendar portal.

Citation NumberThe ticket identifier used in MyCase; no single public local format was documented.
Case NumberA Superior Court cause number such as 67D01-YYMM-IF-######, using the documented court prefix and Rule 8 structure.
CourtPutnam Superior Court for the documented traffic route.
Date and TimeThe later court setting shown in the CCS or confirmed by court staff.
Setting TypeTrial or another hearing event stated in the entry.
StatusFiled, pending, disposed, deferred, or other public case status.

A reset or continuance shows up as a later CCS event. An old printout is not reliable once the court has moved the setting.

Putnam County Citation Date Trap

The trap is reading the date printed near the citation details as a trial date. It is not one. The prosecutor page separates the issue date from trial outright. Payment, denial, and deferral are responses to the citation. The hearing is set by the court alone.

Admit
A response accepting the violation with payment.
Nolo
A no-contest response listed on the citation payment route.
Deny
A response requesting trial and requiring a ticket copy and correct address.
Deferral
A separate prosecutor agreement for an eligible citation, filed within its deadline.

If MyCase shows no setting after a timely denial, call the Clerk. A missing online entry is not permission to skip a court notice.

Paying or Contesting Putnam County Tickets

The citation offers three routes. Paying through an admit or nolo response resolves the case on the stated terms. Denying requests trial. Deferral is separate, requiring eligibility, contact with the prosecutor's coordinator, and a signed agreement filed within 60 days.

Mail approved funds or use the verified online handoff.Watch for the later trial setting and confirm it.File the signed agreement within 60 days.
No personal checks under the local page.Failure to appear can produce judgment.Exclusions can bar participation.

Missed payment or court date: the local page warns that failure to pay can suspend the license until costs are paid and can add late and collection fees. Failure to appear at trial may result in judgment. Contact the Clerk at once.

These are consequences within the citation case itself. The Clerk can confirm the court balance and case status.

Putnam County Deferral Limits

Putnam's infraction deferral program excludes commercial driver's license holders and anyone with a moving violation, deferral, or pretrial-diversion participation in the prior 12 months. Also excluded are work-zone and construction-zone tickets, emergency-vehicle failure to yield, flagman or police-control violations, accident tickets, and speeding at or above its threshold.

The official infraction-deferral page sets out the criteria and published cost bands.

Check the local criteria before assuming deferral is open to you.

One wrinkle deserves care. The page lists a final band as “26 mph.” It also says 27 mph or more is excluded, and that wording does not fully match the statewide fee manual. Confirm the exact offense and cost with the coordinator at 765-653-9466.

Putnam County Court File vs Driver File

Two agencies keep two different files. The Putnam County Clerk holds the court case file for a citation, while the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles keeps the state driving record. That split matters when you ask for paperwork. A certified copy of the citation disposition comes from the Clerk. The state driver file comes from the licensing agency instead.

Here the focus is the court record. A state driver file does not replace the CCS. And the Clerk will not certify the driver record that the BMV maintains.

Putnam County Late-Payment Rule

Local Rule LR67-3 sets a $25 late-payment fee. It applies to qualifying unpaid infraction, misdemeanor, and felony costs, plus fines and civil penalties. The rule allows indigency and good-cause exceptions. The traffic page adds a $13 summons fee and warns that collection-agency fees may follow. A late charge sits apart from the base offense amount. Ask the Clerk for the live total before you pay. MyCase financial entries can lag behind the latest assessment. A stale figure will not tell you what remains due.

The local traffic page also warns that missing the payment deadline can suspend a license. That suspension lasts until the fines and costs are paid. Work that consequence out through the Clerk and the assigned court on the case.

Putnam County Traffic Fees and Copies

Putnam publishes offense amounts. Each citation still needs to be matched to its exact charge. The live page lists $157 for an ordinary moving violation. That same amount covers speeding 1 to 15 mph over. Faster driving costs more. Speeding 16 to 30 mph over is $192, and 31 mph or more runs $242. The page also lists $152 for a nonmoving violation and $25 for no seatbelt, along with other offense-specific sums.

The Clerk can give you the current balance and a certified disposition. A MyCase printout does not count as certified. Copy fees follow state guidance, since Putnam posts no separate traffic-copy schedule.

Putnam County Traffic Copy Request

To order an official traffic file, gather the citation or cause number. Bring the name Putnam Superior Court, the document or CCS entry you need, and whether the copy must be certified. Call 765-653-2648 for the current charge and accepted payment. Then mail a request to PO Box 546, Greencastle, IN 46135. You can also request a copy in person at the Putnam County Courthouse during posted court-office hours. A phone call will confirm a record or balance. The Clerk still decides how a copy is delivered. No local email, fax, or online copy-order channel exists.

Need a court date rather than a document? Start with MyCase and the court phone. The county's broader court calendar process explains the CCS fallback when no stand-alone calendar exists.
