Search Putnam County Cases

Start a Putnam County case search on the statewide public portal, then turn to the county clerk when the online view falls short. You can search by a person's name, a business name, an attorney, a case number, a citation number, or a cross-reference number. A result may list the court, the case status, the parties, upcoming settings, and the Chronological Case Summary. Keep one thing in mind, though. An online result is a public view, not the official court record. Restricted matters may never appear, and some filed documents stay available only through the clerk or to an authorized party.

Searching Putnam County Cases by Name

Indiana MyCase gives free public access to non-confidential Putnam County cases stored in Odyssey. Open the Name tab and pick Putnam County first. Type a last name to begin, since the search starts there. Adding a first and middle name helps when the surname is common, and a business goes under Business Name rather than the personal-name fields. To shrink a long results list, use the category, status, and filing-date filters.

  1. Open MyCase and choose the Name mode.
  2. Enter the last name, then add a first or middle name if needed.
  3. Select Putnam County and a case category when useful.
  4. Use Open, Closed, and filing dates to refine a long list.
  5. Compare the court, case style, filing date, and status before opening a match.

One name can belong to several people. Check the public facts in the case header before trusting the first result.

Putnam County in MyCase

Putnam Circuit Court and Putnam Superior Court both joined Odyssey on October 15, 2018. MyCase is the public face of that system. The live county selector includes Putnam County. No separate Putnam city or town court choice exists in the official listings, so one county selection is the right start even when a matter began in Greencastle, Cloverdale, Roachdale, Bainbridge, or Fillmore.

The official MyCase screen displays the public portal before any search runs.

MyCase may ask you to pass a captcha. It also caps results at 1,000. A broad name search that hits the cap needs narrowing, so add Putnam County, a category, a status, or a filing-date span. Searches that look automated may get refused.

Searching Putnam County Case Numbers

A full cause number is the fastest route in. Putnam Circuit numbers follow 67C01-YYMM-TT-######, and Putnam Superior uses 67D01-YYMM-TT-######. Each piece means something. County code 67 comes first. C01 marks Circuit. D01 marks Superior. YYMM shows the filing year and month. TT is the case-type code, and the final group is the sequence.

Official tips say leading zeroes and hyphens may be dropped. Search by Case Number alone, without party fields mixed in. Put a ticket under Citation Number. A known court reference goes in Cross Reference. Open the result and read its header and CCS. The number alone will not reveal every filing or restriction.

Putnam County Search Tips

A missing result often comes down to spelling or the wrong field. Wildcards are allowed only at the end of a name or term. An all-wildcard search gets rejected. Sounds-like can catch a surname variation. It can also widen the results. A file-date start after the end date creates an invalid condition and returns nothing useful.

The Indiana Judicial Branch search-tips page spells out these rules.

Official tips for a Putnam County case search

Its guidance is useful when Putnam County yields no match or too many names.

When captcha blocks a search: complete the prompt and narrow the request. If access still fails, call the Putnam County Clerk at 765-653-2648 or use the courthouse counter.

What a Putnam County Case Search Returns

A result opens with a case header. It also shows the public parts of the Chronological Case Summary. The CCS is the dated history of the case. Filings, notices, service, settings, orders, disposition, and financial events can all appear there. A linked document may show up too, though availability varies by case type and audience. Older records that were converted into the system can also carry less detail.

Case NumberThe 67C01 or 67D01 prefix, filing group, type, and sequence.
Case HeaderCourt, type, filing date, status, status date, and style.
Parties and CounselPublic roles and attorney data when available.
CCS EventsDated filing, service, setting, order, plea, judgment, or disposition entries.
DocumentsPublic links where the access matrix permits them.
Financial DataValues that may lag; the Clerk gives the current balance.

For the official file, a certified CCS, an unlinked public document, or a live balance, go to the Putnam County Clerk. A screen view is a finding aid, not a certificate.

Putnam County Odyssey Coverage

How far back the online record goes depends on system history. Putnam Circuit and Superior have an Odyssey live date in 2018. MyCase help warns that events converted from older systems vary by county. So an old case may show a sparse online CCS. The Clerk still holds a fuller file.

The official Odyssey list identifies Putnam court coverage.

Odyssey coverage for Putnam County case search records

That listing explains why both trial courts share the same public search layer. When a result seems old or thin, take the cause number to the Clerk and name the document you want. The county Microfilm Office or the Indiana State Archives only matter once the Clerk identifies an archived holding.

Statewide vs Putnam County Case Search

Putnam County has no separate county database rivaling MyCase. The statewide portal is the county's online public-search layer. The real comparison is between MyCase and the official file held by Tracy L. Bridges, Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Federal Putnam-related cases live in PACER, not MyCase, and the official PACER pricing page shows that separate fee model.

Putnam County Search Filters

Advanced options can separate open from closed cases and set filing-date limits. Results sort by case number, file date, case style, or status date, in either direction. The interface pages through results. These controls earn their keep when a common surname returns a crowd of candidates.

Open
The case remains active in the public status field.
Closed
The case has a closed status, though later events may post.
Status date
The date linked to current status, not always a hearing date.
File date
The date the court case began.

Filters cannot override access rules. Even with the right name and date, a sealed, expunged, juvenile, mental-health, or other confidential record may simply not appear.

Putnam County Restricted Case Access

Indiana starts from open access. The Rules on Access to Court Records presume the public can see court files, yet Rule 5 carves out confidential categories and identifiers. Sealed or expunged records, most juvenile and mental-health matters, protection-order information, and protected personal data can be pulled, redacted, or restricted. So a missing MyCase result proves nothing about whether a case exists.

Parties and their lawyers sometimes see more. MyCase offers access codes or party accounts in eligible cases. When a public PDF is absent, call the Putnam County Clerk with the court, the cause number, the document, and its filing date. No records request, though, can force protected content into the open.

For the full file behind a result, turn to the complete Putnam County court records request channels, and confirm any formal use against the clerk-held record itself.

Putnam County Clerk Search Fallback

A portal hiccup is not a dead end. The Putnam County Clerk keeps a phone and counter fallback for Circuit and Superior cases. Dial 765-653-2648 with the party name, the rough filing year, the case type, and the court if you know it. A cause number works best, and staff can tell you what other details they need.

Prefer mail? Send requests to PO Box 546, Greencastle, IN 46135. Say whether you want a CCS, a named filing, a plain copy, or a certified copy, and ask about the current fee and accepted payment before sending money. The office keeps weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The same fallback covers live balances, older data, and public filings that lack a MyCase link. For scheduling questions, Circuit Court answers at 765-653-5315 and Superior Court at 765-653-2658. The Clerk stays the official custodian of the file.
